EMMANUEL SØRE

Emmanuel Rwagasore ardently advocates for transformation and optimism, drawing from the experiences that have taken him from the Democratic Republic of Congo, through numerous challenges, to his current residence in Canada.

In 1996, Emmanuel and his family escaped the civil war and ethnic persecution that devastated their homeland, ultimately finding refuge in the Nakivale refugee camp in Uganda. Indeterminacy and impoverishment characterized his life for nearly thirteen years, but he ultimately discovered resilience in community connections and education.

He commenced his education in February 1997, utilizing learning as a lifeline amid the adversities faced in the camp. He completed his primary and secondary education with distinction despite limited resources.

For Emmanuel, education evolved into a vehicle for empowerment and a pathway to transcend despair. His determination bore fruit when Canada offered him a fresh start in 2009.

Reminiscing on his journey has been a humbling experience for Emmanuel—he felt a strong passion to glorify his family’s sacrifices. He graduated high school from 2009 to 2012—attaining a Bachelor of Science in Geology and Mathematics from 2012 to 2016. Throughout his studies, he formed lifelong friendships.

Moreover, Emmanuel pursued studies in theology, firmly believing in the restorative power of faith. In 2016, he established New Jerusalem Ministries, which he transformed by 2024 into Elevated Life Community Church, a healing center welcoming individuals from all walks of life.

His commitment to community and heritage led to the formation of the Congolese Tutsi Community of Edmonton in 2021, aimed at fostering resilience among refugees.

Emmanuel is currently working toward a Master’s degree in Counseling, emphasizing the critical importance of mental health. His life journey serves as a compelling reminder that hope, unity, and perseverance can illuminate the most challenging paths, empowering others to discover purpose in their struggles.

With unwavering faith and dedication, Emmanuel aspires to make a significant impact on society, reiterating the message that new opportunities and possibilities await those who endure.
